Our Favorite Dog Products for Charlie

Hey!

If you guys follow me on Instagram you know that my husband and I are obsessed with our black lab, Charlie. We got him January 2018 and he has been the best addition. When we first were talking about a dog, I had my doubts… I always thought, well Cachi (my husband) really wants this dog, so we’ll get him but it’ll be Cachi’s dog. Oh how wrong I was…. I love Charlie so much that my family makes jokes of how I am a crazy dog mom. However, I don’t even care because he is just so funny and cute and I love him (okay, maybe they are right, I am a crazy dog mom).

Anyways… Today, I wanted to share some of our favorite dog products. There are soo many things out there that it can sometimes be overwhelming. I am no dog expert, by ANY means, but here are some things we (and Charlie) like…

+ The FURminator Deshedding Tool

We usually get Charlie groomed 1-2x a month at a local groomer. He sheds – A LOT. We trained him to not get on furniture but somehow our white couch still has hair everywhere. We’ve been determined to get it under control. So a few months ago, we started using the FURminator deshedding tool in between grooming appointments. I think it has started to make a difference on his coat, and he also loves having it done. We try to do it a few times a week.

+ Light Up Collar

When we let Charlie out at night it can be hard to see him in the dark yard. My aunt got us a light up collar and it has been a game changer. I think every dog should have one because it helps keep them safe at night whether in the yard or on the sidewalk.

+ Car Seat Cover (above)

Like I said above, Charlie sheds a lot but we also love bringing him along with us. I didn’t want the inside of our cars to get ruined/dirty and I didn’t want to deal with cleaning our seats every time we drove him around. So I measured the backseat of our cars and found the perfect seat cover that is so easy to use.

+ Food

Our trainer suggested Charlie eat 2 cups of Purina Pro Plan Sport a day. Labradors have the reputation of being food obsessed and eating quickly, so our vet recommended we split the 2 cups into 2 feedings. Therefore, we feed him 1 cup in the morning and 1 cup in the evening. Like any millennial would, I signed us up for a subscription for Charlie’s food. Chewy makes it so easy (and cheaper) to set up auto ship. Every 8 weeks a new bag of Charlie’s food shows up on our doorstep. I then pour it into the 2 containers below to keep it fresh and easy to deal with.

+ Short Leash

We trained Charlie to heel, which means he walks right next to us instead of pulling. I kept getting annoyed with the long leash, so I found this short one. This leash makes it easy to keep him close without dragging a long leash. I also included his current collar below.

+ Dog Bed

When we got Charlie I started searching for a beautiful dog bed that not only Charlie would love, but would look great in our living room. At the end of the day, it’s a piece of furniture, so it has to be cute to look all the time. This brings me to Serena & Lily. I found the perfect dog bed and waited around for their next sale! Unfortunately, ours is currently sold out, but I found some similar below.

+ Toys

Pretty straightforward category but wanted to include all of Charlie’s favorite toys.

+ Favorite Treats

We never give Charlie people food, so I always try and give him a few dog treats throughout the day. Trader Joe’s makes some great treats as well. I also try and give Charlie coconut oil once a week. Not only does he LOVE it, it’s supposed to be great for dogs’ coats, digestion, and more (see here). We also try and limit Minties to 1x a week or less. They are great for dogs’ teeth/breath but I was told they aren’t the best for dogs’ digestion.
