Happy Wednesday Friends!
Today, I want to chat about this adorable pom-pom handbag & more importantly bring awareness to the amazing company that makes them, GAIA. I stumbled upon the brand’s website because I was searching pom-pom pouches after seeing them at the J.Crew Spring 2017 Presentation a couple weeks ago at New York Fashion week. After some research, I discovered that J.Crew is partnering with GAIA to produce these fun pouches & the company is selling them on their website. I immediately read all about the company on their about us page & of course, ordered a pouch to support the great cause & look cute while doing it.
Each handbag, pouch, key chain, pillow, jewelry, & more is handmade by one of six refugee women seeking solace in Dallas, Texas. They use “vintage, artisan-made, & sustainable materials” to create beautiful pieces. Not only is GAIA (which means “Goddess of the Earth”) providing these women with jobs & wages, they encourage & guide these women to financial independence & confidence so they can make it on their own & provide for their children.
When I received my GAIA pom pom handbag I was touched by the sweet handwritten note thanking me for the support as well as a tag (pictured above) that told me exactly who made my purse & where she is from. You can read Catherin’s story (as well as the other women) < here >
Also, my pom pom handbag is not the only thing these brace, incredible, inspiring women make! They also hand make other handbag styles, as well as jewelry, pillows, place mats, & more! I definitely think you should check them out ASAP!
