Castiglion del Bosco: Italy Trip Part II

Hi friends!

Sorry for the delay in getting the rest of my Italy posts up on the blog. We had a bad thunderstorm last week and our wifi has been down ever since (insert rolling eyes emoji). Therefore, I have only been able to get a few pictures uploaded at a time while using the hotspot from my phone. Anyways, let me tell you about our next stop in Tuscany!

Check out Lake Como – Part I of our Italy trip here

Where we Stayed: Castiglion del Bosco

On Sunday midday, we left Lake Como and had about a 4.5 hour drive to our next stop, Castiglion del Bosco. Located in Montalcino, Castiglion del Bosco is a Rosewood hotel and one of the oldest & best-preserved estates in Tuscany. The 800-year-old estate consists of ancient castle ruins, a medieval church and the Borgo, a historic village that comprises the heart of the resort.

The property also has a mix of suites & private villas, a winery, spa, gym, pool, golf course, organic garden and 2 restaurants.

My husband, Cachi, and I first visited Castiglion del Bosco during our honeymoon in 2016. We were so excited to stay there again and it didn’t disappoint.

What to do:

Day 1:

We arrived on Sunday afternoon and just checked in, got settled and ready for dinner. Every Sunday night during the summer, CdB hosts a little local inspired festival. Vendors from town set up little booths, there are different food/wine stations, and live music. It is so fun, the food (and the wine) is delicious, and the experience makes you feel like a local.

Day 2:

We decided to take the morning easy. We woke up, went to breakfast and then just relaxed by the pool. We swam, read, and ate lunch there until late afternoon. At 5pm it was time for our winery tour & wine tasting.

We started with a drive through the vineyard and then toured the winery. Finally, we ended with the Brunello Vertical Wine Tasting (obviously the best part). We tasted six Brunellos, while nibbling local pecorino cheese, fresh bread, and CdB virgin olive oil and honey.

After the wine tasting, we decided we just wanted to relax, get room service, and watch a movie in our room. I had the best Tuscan Kale Soup (working on a recipe for the blog) and Cachi had a delicious pesto pasta.

Day 3:

We woke up, had breakfast, took a swim, and then hit the golf course. The golf course at Castiglion del Bosco is Italy’s only private members’ club! However, hotel guests can play once during their stay. We stopped for lunch at the clubhouse and played a few more holes (I didn’t play, I just rode along).

After golf, we had a pizza cooking class at 4pm! During our honeymoon we did the pasta cooking class, so we were so excited to try the pizzas this time. We sipped wine (duh!), while we were taught the art of making traditional focaccia bread, pizza dough, and tiramisu.

Once our pizza dough was rolled out and topped, we threw them in a wood fire oven and waited for them to cook. Finally, we got to sit down and try our food (and drink more wine). The pizzas were so tasty but the star was the Tiramisu. Hoping I can post the recipe on the blog soon!

After the cooking class we just walked around the property, then got organized to leave the next day and called it an early night.

Day 4:

We were picked up at 9am for another long car ride to Naples and a boat transfer to Capri.

Check out the pictures below & outfit details are shared at the end.

Stay tuned for my Capri post!
